Recommendation of the Month: January 2012

http://georgfeuerstein.blogspot.com/

Dr Georg Feuerstein (born 1947) is a German-Canadian Indologist (Indian studies) specialising in yoga. Feuerstein has written more than 30 books on mysticism, Yoga, Tantra, and Hinduism, and has translated, among other traditional texts, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Bhagavad Gita.  He also runs online yoga courses and writes an occasional blog.

This month's recommendation to you is to read his blog (link is above). Feuerstein's blogspots are thought provoking and ethical.

One of his recommendations for living is:

Tread lightly on this Earth. Be kind to all creatures. Live simply. Consume less. Avoid air travel. Find alternatives to car travel. Delight in a vegetarian diet. Grow your own food if possible. Use water sparingly. Lobby for a saner, healthier world.

I suggest you read more Feuerstein this year - it's what I plan to do :)

Buddhism

It can be a fulfilling end to the working week to travel to the WA Buddhist Society's centre in Nollamara on Friday nights to meditate and hear a talk by one of the Society's monks. Ajahn Brahm is especially entertaining and his talks, which are available online, are thought-provoking. The schedule of talks and the Buddhist Society's WA centre are at:

One of my favourite Buddhist authors is Thich Nhat Hanh. A good start to explore the teachings of this Vietnamese Buddhist monk is through the Plum Village website.

Eating Disorders

I am often asked about contacts for eating disorders.  The Clinical Psychologists at Jennifer Wright and Associates can support people who have an eating disorder.  A specialist centre that provides very good support in this area is the Nourish team.  You can find out more about how the team works at

Support groups and counselling form a fundamental and effective part of complementary treatments for those with cancer. While going through chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, people can sometimes begin to feel isolated and depressed. For those with cancer, support groups provide a place for people to talk about their fears, worries, and sorrows.  Find out more at http://www.mesotheliomasymptoms.com.
