About Me

Allow me to tell you a little about myself. I'm an experienced Clinical Psychologist and stress management counsellor.  I tailor my work to individual needs and draw upon a number of therapeutic models including:

* Hakomi mind/body therapy
* hypnotherapy
* cognitive behavioural therapy
* narrative therapy
* supportive psychotherapy

I believe that as every client is unique, their treatment should be individually attuned for the best possible outcome. That's why I'm constantly building on my knowledge and learning the latest techniques.

I achieved a Master's degree in Psychology at the University of Western Australia in 1992. I am also a Hakomi Institute psychotherapy graduate, meaning I have completed three years of training in the Hakomi Method of experiential psychotherapy. I work within the five principles of Hakomi therapy - mindfulness, nonviolence, organicity, unity and body-mind holism. I have completed a two-year course with the WA Branch of the Australian Society of Hypnosis.

I help people with depression (including post-natal depression), anxiety, relationship break-ups, work issues and other personal issues. I work towards enabling clients to gain more insight into their behaviour, and to empower them to change old patterns that no longer work. My goal is always the same: to improve clients' lives and help them to achieve greater happiness and a better quality of life.

Peter (Steve) Tandy

Steve is a registered psychologist with more than twenty years’ experience.  He has a BAppSc (Psych), a Post Grad Dip (Counseling) from Curtin University and a Masters in HR and Employment Relations from UWA.  Steve specialises in deep emotional therapy, a process of exploring early childhood trauma with a focus on healing the past to create a space for the ‘now".  His approach and experience is particularly suited to those who feel their lives are constantly on the verge of emotional disintegration.  It is an approach suited to those individuals who, despite their best efforts and intentions, find old feelings repeatedly interfering with their experiences of today.  Steve’s approach focuses on creating an environment in which clients feel safe enough to explore old feelings (such as abandonment, fear and anger) and through self-generated insight (the ‘aha’ moment) permanently change the way they feel about life.
His areas of interest and expertise include:
Old and destructive patterns of behaviour, such as relationship choices or argument patterns.
Depression and anxiety.
Compulsive and addictive behaviours, where a behaviour becomes an imperative - a must do or must have.
Trauma and abuse issues.
Grief and loss.
